Designing Gender-Inclusive STEM Learning Technologies for Children
How can STEM learning technologies be designed to invite and welcome young learners of different genders, especially young female learners? Leveraging computational toys and kits as a case study, we are exploring the design features of STEM learning media favored by young children of different genders, such as through the lenses of asthetics and activity types. This work aims to provide gender-focused design guidelines for learning technologies to be more inclusive, eventually welcoming participation from children whose preferred design features are underrepresented.
